This is Colorado’s fly fishing dream trip below the world famous Black Canyon National Park’s after the Gunnison River Gorge in the Lower river section”. We offer 1-2 or 3 days of customized – guided Gold Medal fly fishing float trips. This part of the Gunnison calms down with good tail water fishing and some dark bank shadows for BIG Browns and Rainbows and runs clear waters of class II . It is a Catch & Release fishery with a fish count of over 7000 Rainbow and Brown trout per mile and 1000 of which are 14″-35 inches. Gold Medal fisheries are 60 pounds of fish per acre and the Gunnison River has over 400 pounds per acre!

The limited access and unique ‘Hatches’ makes these very exclusive trips. We can set up the rafts or drift boats with 2 anglers per boat . Our professional guides will prepare your meals (lunch through lunch on multi-day trips) and set up the camp. There is easy access at the Gunnison Forks Park (our meeting location) and DVK will return you to the same at the trip end.

FLOAT FISHING EXPEDITIONS The rafts or drift boats (pre arranged) will be set up with only 2 anglers per raft and the pace of your journey down the river will depend on the quality of the fishing conditions in the season. Possible for additional guests 1×2 anglers on same date and lunch. Otherwise you will most likely keep your own pace through-out the day.

GUNNISON RIVER GORGE: (CO) Gunny Gorge 1 Day Guided Float
Float Fishing the Gunnison River Gorge. “THE BABY GRAND” 14 Miles (Chuckar Trail to Gunnison Forks) 2 anglers per raft with guide.
It is a hidden jewel, off the beaten path, tucked deep in steep granite walls. The Gunnison River is a sportsman’s and paddler’s paradise. The clear, cold waters of the Gunnison have been designated a Gold Medal Trout Fishery. Its narrow river corridor creates exciting whitewater action on a river that has been included into the National Park System in 2003.

Accessible only by foot; 1 mile hike into Gorge and horse pack of boats and gear into the Gorge the day before your trip, the Gunnison Gorge is a wilderness canyon for those who are willing to literally go the extra mile. A trip to the canyon floor requires a hike of one mile down a steep trail. Guests are expected to carry their personal gear in dry bag back packs provided by Dvoraks.

Extra horse can be purchased ($120) to carry your bags into the launch at the bottom of the Gorge With every step, the wilderness feeling deepens. The solitude and scenery found at the canyon floor make the Chuckar Trail hike down worth every step. Enter the wilderness world of the Gunnison Gorge for a trip of 1 to 3 days. COLORADO FISHING LICENCE REQUIRED!

Special regulations are in effect to protect the fishery which allows only one fish over 16″ and two under 12″ to be kept. Fly and lures only. We encourage everyone to catch and release. A valid Colorado fishing license is required.
