Don’t Let Mosquitoes Suck the Fun Out of Colorado River Rafting
The only thing that sucks about rafting the many rivers of Colorado are the mosquitoes (badum bum!) They won’t get you as you’re rushing down the river, but when you are settling down for the night at the DVK campsite the little suckers will find you in a second. To avoid itching your way through your river rafting vacation, make sure to pack plenty of bug spray.
Natural, environmentally friendly mosquito repellent
There are several mosquito repellents available on the market with the all powerful Deet, but many want to avoid this toxic substance and go the organic way. We are all for that, so here are a few helpful hints to creating your own “bug off” lotion or spray to bring with you.
We all know that citronella is a powerful mosquito repellent and featured in most mass produced bug sprays. Get a hold of some concentrated citronella oil and add it to some non-scented lotion. Throw in a little lavender and peppermint oil and you’ve got yourself an all natural, environmentally friendly mosquito repellant. If you want a quick spray, mix in the oils with some baby oil and get a spray bottle.
It’s quick and easy and it will make your night time camping in between daytime rafting or any of the other multi-sport activities that we offer to spice up your whitewater vacation.
