Experience the thrill as you take on the whitewater rapids created by the narrow corridor of the Green River. Ride the rapids as they wind between the high walls of Black Canyon before finishing up in Gunnison River Gorge. Here you’ll spend 1-3 days trout fishing in the green waters of this unspoiled wilderness wonder. This is an outdoor experience of the finest caliber. These waters, made green by the malachite minerals, have been awarded “Gold Medal” status for rainbow, brown, cutthroat and cuttbow trout fishing. And our professional and experienced guides are just the people to take you there.

Catch and release without harming the fish

The Tail Race Fishery below the Blue Mesa Project where you’ll fish in peace and quiet is an exclusive catch and release fishery. This means that once you get a trout to bite, take a moment to photograph your catch before safely releasing the trout back into the river. This is not new, but what many may not realize is that there is a right and a wrong way to hold a trout while getting that perfect shot to capture your adventure. Unfortunately, all too often, the way people grip their fish may quickly turn to “grip and kill” rather than “grip and grin”. Most will grip the fish at either end; one hand on the tail end and one hand gripping the bottom of the fish, right behind the head. This is the grip that can cause severe harm to your trout. That is because this is where the heart of the fish is, and a tight grip of a slippery fish can cause irreparable damage, even death, to the trout. This defeats the entire purpose of catching and releasing the trout. If you want to read about the “death grips” that are all too common, check out this article. And talk to our guides about the right way to hold a fish safely for a great photo.

All while treating your surroundings with respect so that the next adventurer can have the same incredible experience as you, wherever their outdoor adventure may take them.
